Quick wrap up for now.

Hi everybody! Just wanted to give you a quick wrap up of how the Battle of the Sexes Tournament turned out. I know some of you had to leave early, so I thought you might like to hear the final table results.

Here is the order of finish at the final table:

1st place and Battle of the Sexes Champion for 2009
- Michael Myers

2nd place - Deb Walton
3rd place - Martin A.
4th place - Dennis Almasy
5th place - Ron Medinger (how did this guy finish this high anyway??)
6th place - Jennifer Trump
7th place - Lori Beimer
8th place - Kellen Axtel
9th place - Gina Avila
10th place - Leslie S.

Congratulations to all who represented their gender by making the final table! I for one had an excellent time and I hope all of you feel the same.

I'd like to give a big thank you to Mike Dalton and Nick Medinger for running the tournament so I could have fun playing.

I'd like to give another big thank you to my dear wife Stella for working so hard to manage all the food that everybody brought (good job everybody!!) and making sure everyone was served at the tables while they were playing.

Thanks to Rebecca Long for being such a great "poker wife" to me.

Thanks to Bill Allen, Billy Frombach, Ed Lafollette, Rebecca Long, Julie Chambers and Sarah Ballou for dealing while they were playing. You all contributed greatly to the success of the day!

Thanks to the numerous players who agreed to deal once they were....ahem...how shall I say this diplomatically......."done playing cards for the day." ;-)

Thanks to all the players who generously brought food to share with everyone! Wow!! What a spread!! (No, seriously, it made me spread out even more....more Hippopepper!!)

And finally thanks to all of you who stayed to help clean up at the end of the night. Your help is REALLY appreciated!

I will most likely do another post here including some pictures and perhaps even some video at some point. But right now...all I want to do is try and recuperate for the next few days.

All my best to everyone and thanks for playing!

Ron

New team #27

Thursday update

I didn't hear from either one of the teams I thought would sign up today.

Also, I received a call from one team that has to drop out because of a change in one team member's work schedule. That team is Jerry Nichols & Bonnie Bridgitt.

That makes the count 26 teams signed up as of tonight.

Space available for 4 more teams.

Email sent.

I sent an email to everyone who is registered, and that I have an email address for, in the late afternoon on Wednesday. The email contained directions to the tournament location and a revised blind structure. If you have not received this email, let me know by either emailing me at hippopepper@gmail.com or calling me. My phone number is on the brochure I handed out. (I don't really want to post it on the internet.)

Team #26 & 27

Team #26 & 27 signed up on Wednesday night.

Johnny Schlosser & Cathy Karpins
Kevin Sweden & Lori Beimer

I expect two more teams to confirm tomorrow that they are playing. That will leave space available for only one more team.

Not a bad turnout for the inaugural run of this tournament!

Battle of the Sexes - I

This blog will track the Talent Poker Tour's "Battle of the Sexes Tournament".

Here is the information so far:

Date: June 20, 2009

Time: Check-in starts at 1:00 p.m.
Seating and announcements at 1:45 p.m.
Tournament starts at 2:00 p.m.

Location: The Clubhouse, Talent, Oregon (No, I'm not being more specific than this on the internet. Registrants will be given detailed directions to the tournament location.)

This tournament has a $40.00 per person buy-in and is limited to the first 30 teams who register. A team consists of one man and one woman, they do not have to be married or be a "couple", only teammates. Preregistration is required.

The tournament will start out as two preliminary tournaments being played at the same time. A 30 player Women Only Tournament will be run simultaneously with a 30 player Men Only Tournament. When either of these preliminary tournaments has five players remaining, they will halt play and go on break until the other preliminary tournament also has five players remaining.

At this point four cash awards will be presented. Two "High Hand Prizes" will be awarded, one to a man and one to a woman. Two "Knockout Prizes" will be awarded, one to the man who has eliminated the most opponents by this point in the tournament and one to the woman who has eliminated the most opponents by this point in the tournament.

Awarding these prizes at this point in the tournament allows players who have not made the final table a better chance to win cash prizes.

After the presentation of these prizes, the five players remaining from each tournament will come together to form a ten person final table. They will bring their individual chip stacks with them from their preliminary tournaments. Seat positions will be redrawn, the position of the dealer button will be re-established and play will resume.

All ten players at the final table will receive cash prizes. The ultimate winner of the final table will also receive a "Battle of the Sexes" Championship bracelet.

Each player will receive a point scoring based on when they are eliminated from the tournament. For example the first man eliminated will receive one point, the second man eliminated will receive two points and so on. The same points will be awarded to the female players based on when they are eliminated. At the end of final table play, the points earned by the male member of the team will be added to the points earned by the female member of the team to determine the team score. The team with the highest score will be awarded a cash prize for "Best Team".

ALL MONIES COLLECTED AS ENTRY FEES WILL BE PAID OUT IN PRIZE MONEY. THERE IS NO HOUSE FEE FOR PLAYING IN THIS TOURNAMENT. NO RAKE IS TAKEN OFF THE TABLE DURING THIS TOURNAMENT. ALL CASH PRIZE AMOUNTS WILL BE PROPORTIONATELY BASED ON THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF ENTRY FEES COLLECTED.
